Interventional Psychiatry

Interventional psychiatry is a subspecialty of psychiatry that uses advanced, in-clinic procedures and technologies to target brain circuits and treat mental health conditions, particularly those that are resistant to traditional treatments like medication and talk therapy.

In the course of her work with people with severe mental illness, Dr Bavi has become increasingly interested in interventional techniques in psychiatry. She has established an infusion clinic, has postgraduate training in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), and serves on the executive of the Interventional Psychiatry Special Interest Group of the South African Society of Psychiatrists.
