Depression and anxiety is common in people with medical condition such as cancer, heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis and renal disease. Research suggests that people who have depression and another medical illness tend to have more severe symptoms of both illnesses. They may have more difficulty adapting to their co-occurring illness and more medical costs than those who do not also have depression. It may be difficult to determine if what someone with a medical illness is experiencing is depression, anxiety, or physical effects of the illness and/or its treatment. This practice offers a comprehensive liaison mental health service including:

  • Assessment for depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues
  • Evaluation and management of possible medication interactions
  • Delirium risk assessment and management
  • Psycho-oncology
  • Management of the mental health aspects of chronic pain
